We will be covering a lot of ground in this blog, and I can promise one thing: I will say something that is wrong, or that was right when I wrote it but might be wrong in the time it takes to ‘publish’ it.
We have several irons in the fire, but soon you will be able to comment on this blog. My hope is that people a lot smarter than me will give us details on why I am wrong. Remember, be respectful; avoid comments about other people. And no cursing; there’s a challenge for you. We all know lots of cuss-words. There used to be an entire litany of them to express the level of your passion and/or outrage. But we have gotten mentally lazy. Not only do we use one cuss-word for all occasions, we often use it as an adjective. And “freaking”, or words with letters missing will get the same treatment; we know what you mean. Your comments will be edited, or deleted entirely if you can’t take the time to choose your words well.
“Search your feelings,” and use the precise word. While you’re at it, “Come over to the Dark Side.” We have cookies.
So, here are some of the things we are going to talk about
#1 THINKING ABOUT WHAT YOU WANT / NEED, TALKING IT OVER WITH YOUR DESIGNER, AND COMING UP WITH A PLAN !!!
The plan will change. But you need a plan to change from. Dynamiq AV likes to call it the “In-home Design Consultation”. I call it “Never make a battle-plan from only a map reconnaissance.” (Got that spelled right on the second try.)
And also (in no particular order): TVs, media cabinets and racks, mounts, receivers, sound-bars & speakers & sub-woofers (fun), projectors, very fancy (or simple) remotes, and – to protect your investment – power surge protectors. Did I leave anything out ? Let’s see, installation (where and how), wiring organization and concealment, DVRs, home / office security, and home / office automation –
“Computer, lights on” – (well, someday soon). How’d you like to have an out-door theatre in your own backyard. (Like that, giving it the British spelling makes it sound fancy.) And here’s something you probably didn’t consider: who cleans up afterwards ? Ever been to a construction site ? Messy.
And last, but first in my heart, the equipment. I do love to window-shop (uh, research) the latest and greatest equipment. This will include monitors – and TVs today are really just big monitors – and computers or other devices (built in or plugged in) which allow you to access the Internet.
Looking forward to it.
P.S. “…just big monitors…” ? They are all-in-one computers with a specialized operating system.
